The engineer will be responsible for validating supplier's capabilities, reviewing inspection reports, proactively working through development issues and providing PPAP approval for a list of gear and or shafts they are representing.  They will be following the New Source Introduction process and supporting the project, as needed.  They will be working closely with a Project Leader, Supplier Development Engineer and Supplier's Quality Department.  


  • Ensure NSI conformance (bases on APQP), this includes constant communication with strategic supplier, proactive resolution of development issues, support NSI progress, support Supplier Development Engineers in holding suppliers accountable for meeting quality requirements, and work with Design Control and project leader to document drawing changes through ECN process
  • Be accountable for understanding component strategies, GSND strategies, corporate NSI process, and the business processes necessary to deliver commitments
  • Responsible for workig with GSND on PPAP approvals and items such as supplier tooling , process documentation and control plans
  • Work directly with the Quality team to resolve any deviation requests, supplier correlation issues, disposition of nonconforming parts and resolving print interpretation issues
  • Review Quality Issues List and work with Supplier Development Engineers and suppliers to ensure there are control plans in place to eliminate potential Quality Issue List items
  • Provide manufacturing leadership for the NSI activities, including selection of sources taken from the category strategies & matrices, and resource management decisions
  • Demonstrate leadership in recognizing the potential for cost and inventory reductions, and quality improvement; as well as responsibility for soundness of business proposals and risk assessment. 
  • Promote highest level of professionalism and business ethics
  • Must have strong knowledge of the Gears and Shafts manufacturing process, NPI or NSI, Manufacturing, Supply Network and Category & Facilities Strategies
  • Solve NSI problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions
  • Identify and satisfy Critical Customer Requirements (CCR), managing Product expectations for Global Supply Network to deliver benefits required to sustain a competitive advantage  


  • Bachelors degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or similar field or equivalent industry experience in gears and or shafts manufacturing or processing
  • Experience preferred in manufacturing, purchasing and project management
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive responsibility in job-related gear and or shaft manufacturing experience
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills are required in dealing with sensitive issues, working well with multi-functional teams, and reaching consensus on specific actions
  • Solid understanding of the APQP process
  • Analytical, problem solving, and project leadership skills High energy and a demonstrated ability to implement and get results are essential
  • Strong ability to handle a high workload and manage priorities is required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must be self-directed, self-starter, and be able to multi-task and prioritize
  • Must enjoy working in a team environment, and have strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to work with enterprise-wide program managers and project leads
